Combat Patrol: Tyranid Assault Brood

Scoped to what we're actually playing — the Assault Brood Combat Patrol box, not the full Tyranids codex. Combat Patrol is self-contained by design: a fixed 15-model roster, no detachment to choose, and its own small rules card rather than a full codex — sourced here from the box's actual rules-card PDF, not guessed from wiki summaries.

What's in the box, and how it plays

Not the full rules — just what this box feels like to face and to field.

Synapse

While a Tyranids unit is within 6" of a friendly synapse model, it tests battle-shock on 3D6 instead of 2D6. Parasite of Mortrex and Tyrant Guard are your synapse models in this box — keep them within 6" of the Genestealers and Biovores so a bad battle-shock roll doesn't strip models off the board.

Shadow in the Warp

Once per battle, in either player's Command phase, you can force every enemy unit on the table to take a battle-shock test. One-shot, so timing it against a unit that's already taken losses gets the most out of it.

Fixed 15-model roster, no detachment choice

Parasite of Mortrex (your Warlord), 10 Genestealers, 3 Tyrant Guard, 1 Biovore. Combat Patrol doesn't ask you to pick a detachment — this is the whole force, and it comes with its own 3 stratagems and 2 secondary objectives, distinct from full-game ones.

Genestealers do the killing

Ten Genestealers are the melee threat — fast (8" move, Scouts 8") and hit hard, but only a 5+ invulnerable save between them and anything shooting back. Tyrant Guard and the Biovore exist to protect them or soften a target before they arrive.

Painting log

What's actually painted, and what was used to paint it — kept here so the next model matches the last one.

  • Parasite of Mortrex
    — add colours here once painted
  • Tyrant Guard (x3)
    — add colours here once painted
  • Biovore
    — add colours here once painted
  • Genestealers (x10)
    — add colours here once painted
The kit also includes bits for a Pyrovore (instead of the Biovore), Hive Guard (instead of Tyrant Guard), and Spore Mines — build options from the wider Tyranids range. This Combat Patrol's own rules only use Parasite of Mortrex, Genestealers, Biovore, and Tyrant Guard, so that's what's tracked above; add a row here if you build and use one of the alternates instead.
Photos aren't attached yet. This site has no backend and no accounts, so there's nowhere durable to put uploaded images yet — that needs a storage decision (likely committing images into the repo) before photos get added here. For now this section is a hand-edited log; add rows directly in factions/tyranids.html as units get painted.

Quick reference

Datasheets and stratagems moved to their own pages, one tap from here instead of buried down the page — searchable, and scoped to Tyranids.
