Where this came from.
Everything on this site is summarised in our own words. Nothing here reproduces official rules text, and none of it is authoritative. This page lists what was actually consulted, so you can go and check.
Official
Where this site and Games Workshop disagree, Games Workshop is right and this site is wrong. Check here first.
Warhammer 40,000 downloads
GW's official downloads page for 40,000 — errata, FAQs and rules documents. Errata land regularly, which is the reason nothing on this site should be treated as current without checking.
Warhammer Community
GW's own news and articles site, and where rules changes get announced before they reach the downloads page.
A handful of GW publications did most of the work. All are official — we're not hosting them, and the rules text on this site is paraphrased from them rather than copied.

| Keywords & abilities | 11th edition Core Rules PDF. Every core weapon ability and core unit ability (section 24), plus the keywords and terms the rest of the rulebook attaches to them. Each entry links to the rule it summarises by number and page. Battleline and half range have no standalone rule and are marked untraced on the page itself. |

Painting
Technique, not recipes. We deliberately don't publish pot-by-pot paint lists — they go stale, and the sites below already do it better.
Specific guides read while writing the technique reference, and what each contributed:
- Three skin tones — the basecoat → recess shade → rebuild midtone → pinpoint highlight structure behind the two-tier highlight section.
- Leather techniques — the distinction between a continuous edge highlight and a sparse extreme highlight.
- Space Marines: Ultramarines — starting white from grey rather than white, shading yellow with orange, and working a model in zones.
Deliberately not used
These shaped early drafts and were then thrown out. They are listed because the reason they were wrong is a trap you will hit too.
- Third-party rules sites and wikis for Tyranid stratagems. What they describe is full 2,000-point detachment play. Combat Patrol has its own much smaller stratagem set, and the two are not interchangeable.
- A third-party site for a full 60-unit datasheet roster. Correct as far as it went, but this Combat Patrol box contains four units, and a roster of everything a Tyranid army could ever field is noise when you are learning the box in front of you.
Not sourced
Being straight about it: this was written without a record of where the material came from. Check it against the official downloads above before relying on it in a game.
- Charts — the wound roll table.
How we use them
The rules this site holds itself to.
- Summarise in our own words. Never reproduce official rules text — this site is public.
- Where this site and the official rules disagree, the official rules win.
- Check the date on anything you find elsewhere. 11th edition launched in June 2026 and changed detachments, stratagems, cover and objective scoring. Most search results and video content still describe 10th edition and are wrong about scoring.
- Scoring rules are never baked into the tracker. Errata go stale silently and a hardcoded rule is worse than no rule.
